Paw Patrol Cake

Paw Patrol cake is a two layer simple sponge cake  (Follow the link for a more detailed recipe then the one shown bellow)
First layer is chocolate, the top layer is vanilla with custard cream and cream cheese frosting.

You will need
Two sponge cakes
custard cream
cream cheese frosting
simple sugar syrup
simple chocolate syrup (or any variant of hot coco you like)
serving plate

Step 1
Make a simple sponge cake
Ingredients
Flour (sifted) – 1 cup
Eggs – 5 eggs
Sugar – 1 cup (I always put about ¾ to 4/5 of a cup)
vanilla extract – 1 tsp
baking powder – 1tsp (especially if you are new to baking)

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 F
1.Cut parchment paper to fit a 9″ round cake pan or butter the cake pan.
2. Beat the eggs on high speed, gradually adding sugar until thick and fluffy.
(You can also beat the egg whites and egg yolks separately and then fold the egg yolk mixture into egg whites. This will make the cake even more airy. If you do, remember to only use dry and clean whisk and bowl for egg whites)
3. Mix flour with the baking powder.
4. Fold flour in until well mixed but be careful not to over mix. (The more fluffy it looks the better)
5. Pour into prepared cake pan.
6. Bake for approximately 25 – 30 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out dry. (My oven is hotter than most and it usually takes 23-25 min.)
7. Cool for a few minutes, remove from the pan and let cool completely. (It has to be room temperature to touch)
8. Cut the cake in half lengthwise.
9. Make a desired syrup, and generously brush the layers with it

Step 2

Chocolate Simple Sponge Cake

Ingredients

Flour (sifted) – 3/4 cup
Coco – ¼ cup
Eggs – 5 eggs
Sugar – 1 cup (I always put about ¾ to 4/5 of a cup)
Baking powder – 1tsp

Step 3

Custard Cream

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups whole milk (If you want to use 1% it’s not a problem. It will just be a little less creamy)
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp flour
a pinch of salt
4 large egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions
1.Warm the milk in the saucepan but do NOT bring to a boil
2. Make the egg-sugar base by whisking the egg yolks with sugar flour, and salt until it forms form a thick paste.
3. Pour just a little of the hot milk into the eggs and whisk to combine. Continue pouring the milk slowly into the eggs, whisking continuously.
4. Return to the pot. Set on medium heat. The milk egg mixture will start to thicken after a few minutes. Keep whisking to avoid clumps. When it reaches a pudding-like consistency, stop whisking every few seconds to see if bubbles start to appear. If you see some bubbles appearing on the surface, remove the pan from heat.
5.Strain the cream through a strainer and let it cool.

Step 4

Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients
24 oz of cream cheese, room temp
1 ½ cups of butter (3 sticks) room temp
3 cups confectioners sugar (taste it and add sugar, if desired up to 5 cups of sugar)
vanilla extract (I used it for my blue frosting)
lemon extract (I used it for my white frosting)

Directions
1. Beat butter and cream cheese until well blended.

2. Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat until creamy. (It took me about 5-10 min with a hand mixer)
 Step 5

Simple Sugar Syrup

Ingredients
¾ cup of water
¼ cup of sugar
Directions
Flavor extract– optional
Bring water to boiling, add sugar and take the water off the stove. Let sugar dissolve, add extract and let it cool to room temperature.

Simple Chocolate Syrup

Ingredients
1 tbsp  unsweetened coco powder
1 tbsp  granulated sugar
3 tbs hot water
a small pinch of salt
1 cup milk

Directions
1.
Combine the cocoa, sugar, water, and salt in a medium saucepan.
2. Over medium heat, stir constantly until the mixture boils. Continue stirring for 1 minute
3. Add the milk and heat it up, but do not boil.
4. Let it cool to room temp

Step 6
Assemble the cake
1. Place the first layer of the cake on the plate.
2.Generously brush the layer with syrup.
3. Put some custard cream on the layer.
4. Put the second layer on top and brush with syrup again.
5. Pipe some cream cheese filling.
6. Repeat the steps with the second layer of the cake.
Decorate as desired with cream cheese frosting

Step 7

Melted chocolate bones decoration

Ingredients
white chocolate

Directions:
1. Melt the chocolate. Place broken pieces of chocolate into a double boiler. (You can simply put a heatproof bowl over simmering water). It is important for water not to boil. Don’t forget that chocolate melts even at the temperature of your body. (Remember the sticky hands of your little ones after they’ve enjoyed some good chocolate?) If the water starts boiling, immediately, lift the bowl and let the water cool. Then, proceed with the directions
2. Place chocolate into a bottle dispenser or, Place a zip lock bag in a cup and fill it with the melted chocolate.
3. Make a small whole in one of the corners of the bag.
4. Place your templates under wax paper and trace the lines with chocolate.
My bones didn’t come out very smooth simply because I made a big hole in my bag. If that happens to you, don’t worry. The side that is turned to the paper is going to be perfectly smooth and it can be your face side on the cake

  1. I was blessed to be invited to eat some of this birthday cake, and I can say that it tasted as good as it looks! I had no idea that you made the white chocolate bones yourself also. What a great idea!
